Turn It Loose! This one has literally never left my bag since I found this gem in some Londonian record shop 5 or 6 years back, so solid. Edit comes courtesy of Fantasista aka Toshio Matsuura who managed to lay down one of the few James Brown Remakes that actually do it for me. Track was also included on a couple of Compilations but this Vinylrip comes from the original, much better sounding Japanese 12″ Pressing. My copy is worn though. Anyways, here you go…
Was just browsing the new arrivals at TTL when i came across this 12″ EP from Swedish Re-Edit Machine Beatconductor, kinda nice warmup material on that one, usually most of his stuff is too random for me. Anyways, checking that release reminded me of the re-edit below, used to play that one regularly back in the CDR-Age, sort of slipped out of my crates somehow. Quality stuff from that Dutch guy Ben Liebrand, goes down well in your set next to all that 80s stuff and shit.
My Brother from another mother aka Ais-T from Music People fame will be in town tomorrow and is joining Pascis & myself at our weekly Sixpack joint. Should be nice, be there!
One of my favourite tracks from one of my favourite artists ever. This BBC documentary also comes highly recommended, giving a great insight on his background, story and what impact he and his music had in general…
“Gil Scott-Heron is the Godfather of rap. His confrontational, no-nonsense street poetry and intelligent song writing skills have inspired the modern Hip-Hop generation and he is arguably one of the most significant musicians and poets in Afro-American history. The programme features contributions from disciples such as Chuck D and Mos Def as well as music from his career stretching back over 20 albums to the early 70s.”
The man himself is supporting Joss Stone this week in Bonn (WTF?), it really should be the other way round even though dude sadly seems to be pretty wasted nowadays. I`m gonna skip that one and be just happy listening to his records.
The International School of Design is handing out diploma certificates tomorrow and we got asked to spice up the afterparty. So tomorrow the whole Team 123 Rakete will be playing all night at Opernterrassen Cologne, step by if you`re around – should be good!
Los gehts um 23h, Tickets kosten 8EUR. Wer nachmittags noch nichts vorhat: ab 16h startet in der KISD am Ubierring die Ausstellung der diesjährigen Diplomarbeiten…
90`s House Music at its best. Also check this little video about Nu Groove featuring head honcho Frank Mendez, young Joey Beltram, Bobby Konders and others from the camp… Nice!
This blog is mostly about music appreciation, for real. Rather than participating in nowadays "we were first" blog game we focus on timeless tracks and a few exclusives we think you should hear and play out. There simply is too much crap around. Anyways, if you own the copyright in something that is up here and want an audio link removed or feel like getting in contact for whatever reason please email to holla [at] 123rakete.de.
Other than that we are three DJ`s from Cologne running a monthly clubnight, dj around elsewhere a bit, enjoy both vinyl and mp3`s next to some other random stuff.
